After dabbling in illustration and advertising agency work in his native Stockholm, Calle found his calling in 1992, directing his first commercial for Rally TV. By 1994 he had been selected for the Saatchi & Saatchi new directors showcase in Cannes.More info
While directing commercials throughout the 1990s, he also found time to write and direct the hugely successful Swedish comedy series ‘Kenny Starfighter’, which evolved onto the big screen this year. ‘Kenny Begins’ is Calle’s first feature film and has been campedtrans CALLE ASTRAND in the top ten of the Swedish box office charts since its release in March this year.
Calle has written and directed various television comedies, including a short film for Abba’s 30th Eurovision Anniversary, which reunited the band after 20 years and also starred Rik Mayall. He also made the hugely popular Nisse Hults Historiska Snedsteg, billed by the papers as a combination of Blackadder and Monty Python and drawing huge viewing figures – 20% of the Swedish population tuned in every week.
While achieving so much as a director for broadcast, Calle also found time to make commercials for clients such as Ikea and the newspaper Dagbladet in Sweden. He moved to his current home, Dab Hand Media, in ****. Since joining Dab Hand he has hit his stride, directing commercials for Wheat Thins, Powerade and Minute Maid amongst others.
